What's the best soldering iron for a beginner's kit?

Last verified 2026-08-09

For genuinely starting from zero, a simple fixed-temperature iron (Antex CS18/XS25) removes any setup complexity — plug in and go. If you'd rather learn on the setup you'll likely keep using, a budget digital station (YIHUA 926LED-IV or 937D+) teaches you to work with adjustable temperature from day one, which is a more transferable skill. Either way, pair it with a stand, brass-wool or sponge tip cleaner, and rosin-core solder — the iron itself is only part of a usable beginner kit.
