FAQ · Wattage, temperature & technique
What temperature should a soldering iron be for electronics?
Last verified 2026-08-09
Most electronics soldering with leaded solder works well around 315–370°C (600–700°F); lead-free solder typically needs slightly higher, around 350–400°C, because it melts at a higher point. Fixed-temperature irons like the Antex XS25 run around 370°C by design, which covers most general electronics work. If your station is adjustable, start around 350°C and increase only if the solder isn't flowing quickly — running hotter than needed shortens tip life and risks damaging heat-sensitive components.
